Recruitment firm takes action for Temps

A recent survey conducted by recruitment firm, Victoria Lewis, has highlighted the most important factors that temporary staff look for in a consultancy.

"Competitive rates of pay was an obvious one, but higher still was the need for support, commitment and regular communication," explains Director, Sharon Jenkins.

Temporary staff working for the company's branches in Bedford, Huntingdon, Epping and Waltham Cross were asked for candid feedback and for their opinions on how to improve the quality of service.

As the shortage of key skills continues to be a pressing issue, the temporary market is in increasing demand as a flexible workforce whose ability to be multi-skilled is a much sought-after commodity.

"Recognising the needs and views of our temporary workers is an important tool in improving and growing our service," says Sharon Jenkins. "We think we know what our temps want, but we can fall short on truly understanding their needs. We do know that the number of people in work is set to rise by an average of 0.5 per cent for the next three years to around 3.63 million and that indicates that the need for temporary staff will grow at a reflective rate."

Through studying and acting upon their findings, the company is confident they will offer a more tailor-made service for their temps.

The main points highlighted in the survey were:
· Regular contact during and between assignments
· Support, commitment and loyalty from their consultant
· Opportunity to train in new skills
· Competitive rates of pay · Feedback from clients on their performance
· Feeling of being valued and respected

Victoria Lewis scored highly in many areas but recognise there are areas for improvement and have already implemented an action plan to address the needs and wants of their temps.

"Our temps are the face of our business. Our reputation goes with them when they work for a client and we must make every effort to offer them the resources they need in order to attract and keep them temping with Victoria Lewis," concludes Sharon Jenkins.
